What is your role within Learning Cog?

“I have over 15 years of experience as an HR generalist, in a mixture of in house roles and different industries, generally in small startups. My background covers everything from employee relations and culture development to all the day-to-day HR functions. Four years ago, I transitioned to consulting and now focus mainly on HR and people culture projects.

I became an accredited Insights Practitioner in 2012, and I’ve been using those tools ever since, whether working in-house or with my own clients. Most recently, I’ve worked with companies like William Grant & Sons, and I’m now an associate practitioner under Rick’s distributorship, delivering Insights and profiles for clients.”

Who inspires you?

“Beyoncé — she’s got this epic work ethic and is kind of unapologetic, and is great at what she does.”

Is there a quote that motivates you?

‘Nip it in the bud’

“In my experience, a skill that’s really often lacking is confidence to give feedback. And I think confidence only comes after you’ve done it lots of times. I’ve had many conversations where people avoid giving feedback, even when they know something’s not working. For me, “nipping it in the bud” is about helping people build the confidence to address issues early on. In the end, addressing things early saves time, avoids misunderstandings, and prevents hurt feelings. It’s just something that isn’t always easy to do, but it’s definitely worth it.”
