A Day of Performance Coaching with Silent Disco King

I recently had the pleasure of attending a performance coaching workshop with Silent Disco King in Southampton. It was a sunny Monday morning, and the energy in the room was already buzzing when Ric and I arrived to meet the engaged group of delegates. The atmosphere was relaxed yet focused, and throughout the day, we had an opportunity to dig deep into some really thought-provoking topics, share insights, and have plenty of fun along the way.

A Discussion to Kickstart the DaySDK Team in the performance coaching workshop with Ric

We began the day by diving into the concept of zones. Specifically, the Comfort, Stretch, and Panic zones. This is a powerful model used in performance coaching to help individuals understand where they are in relation to their personal growth and development. The Comfort Zone is where we feel safe, secure, and confident, while the Stretch Zone is where we challenge ourselves, take risks, and grow. The Panic Zone, however, is where things can go awry, pushing us beyond our capabilities and creating stress and anxiety.

As we discussed each zone, it was fascinating to hear delegates share their personal experiences of being in each one and how it affects their performance at work. This led to some really insightful discussions about personal limits, resilience, and how stepping outside our comfort zones can lead to growth and success.

Delegating Tasks: Why Do We Do (or Don’t Do) It?

Next, we shifted focus to the topic of delegation. This was an area that sparked lots of lively discussion among the group. We explored the reasons why people might hesitate to delegate tasks and the barriers that can prevent effective delegation in the workplace.

Some of the common reasons discussed included fear of losing control, not trusting others to get the job done, and that it would be more time effective if they ‘did it themselves.’ On the other hand, we talked about how effective delegation can empower teams, build trust, and allow leaders to focus on more strategic priorities.

Ric shared some great strategies for overcoming these barriers, highlighting the importance of clear communication, setting expectations, and providing the right support and feedback. Delegation, when done effectively, is a key skill for leaders and managers looking to drive team success and personal productivity.

A Great Day of Learning, Sharing, and Collaborating

The workshop was a fantastic blend of learning, sharing, and collaboration. The small group format encouraged everyone to participate, share their experiences, and learn from each other’s insights.
