Delegates Participating in Leader in Me Workshop

Hey! I recently had the chance to attend a fantastic workshop called “Leader in Me,” hosted by Ric at Sopher & Co. If you’re looking to develop your leadership skills and learn more about managing teams effectively, this was the place to be!

A Day of Discovery

The workshop brought together a diverse group of delegates, all eager to dive into the world of leadership practices and team dynamics. The team at Sopher & Co. really knows how to create a warm and engaging atmosphere, making it easy for everyone to jump right in.

The Development Levels

One of the first topics we explored was the four development levels of individuals within a team:

– D4: High competence, high commitment—your team members who are ready to take on anything!

–  D3: Moderate to high competence but variable commitment. These folks might need a little encouragement to stay engaged.

– D2: Low to some competence and low commitment. They’re in the developing stage and might need a bit more guidance.

– D1: Low competence but high commitment. These are the enthusiastic learners who just need the right support to grow.

We spent time working through various scenarios, figuring out where individuals might fit into this model. It was fascinating to see how different leadership styles can be applied based on development levels.

Understanding Leadership Styles

Next up, we tackled the concept of leadership styles. We explored four key approaches:

– S1 Directing: This is where you take charge and provide clear instructions. Great for those who need a bit more guidance!

– S2 Coaching: Here, you’re still providing direction, but also starting to encourage more input from your team. This is great for those that have just started learning and need some more motivation.

– S3 Supporting: This style is all about collaboration. You trust your team to make decisions while being there to support and guide them.

– S4 Delegating: The ultimate goal! You’ve got a team that’s skilled and committed, so you can step back and let them shine.

Understanding these styles set the stage for some insightful discussions about how different situations call for different approaches.

Interactive Learning at It’s Best

What I loved most about the workshop was the interactive nature of the day. We broke into groups, participated in activities, and engaged in lively discussions. Everyone was encouraged to share their thoughts and experiences, which made the learning feel personal and relevant. It was clear that we were all there to grow together!

Key Takeaways

By the end of the day, I walked away with some valuable insights, including:

– The importance of adapting your leadership style to meet the needs of your team members.

– Recognising that everyone is at a different development level – and that’s okay!

– Practical strategies for fostering an environment where team members feel supported and empowered to develop.

– The delegates left the meeting with a clear, well-thought-out plan aimed at providing strong support for every member of their team.

Overall, the “Leader in Me” workshop was a fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone looking to enhance their leadership skills. Big thanks to Sopher & Co. for creating such a supportive and engaging space for learning. If you ever get the chance to attend one of our workshops, don’t hesitate—contact us!
