Hi, I’m Ellie, I recently got to attend the Insight’s Discovery practitioner day in my new role as Marketing Assistant for LearningCog. The day was filled with new insights and innovative exercises designed to empower our associates. Learning Cog is always looking for ways to enhance our understanding of human behaviour and team dynamics. We brought together current practitioners for a day filled with learning, sharing, and connecting. Here are my thoughts from my day out of office.
Insights is a powerful profiling tool, using a four-colour model to gain an understanding of an individual’s strengths and areas for development. Insights Discovery builds on these ideas by categorising personalities into four main color energies: Fiery Red, Sunshine Yellow, Earth Green, and Cool Blue.
Each colour represents distinct traits and preferences:
- Fiery Red: Assertive and action-oriented, individuals with this energy often thrive in fast-paced environments and are driven by results.
- Sunshine Yellow: This energy reflects enthusiasm and sociability. People with a Sunshine Yellow preference are typically communicative, creative, and enjoy collaborating with others.
- Earth Green: Those who resonate with Earth Green are empathetic and supportive. They prioritise harmony in relationships and are often great listeners, making them valuable team players.
- Cool Blue: Individuals with Cool Blue energy tend to be analytical and detail-oriented. They value accuracy and are often seen as methodical thinkers who thrive in structured environments.
Based on the work of psychologist Carl Jung, Insights Discovery helps an individual recognise that everyone has different working styles and needs. Learning Cog takes these insights to facilitate team building workshops and training sessions which can then build a team that fosters a culture of collaboration and stronger relationships.
Embracing Neurodiversity One of the standout moments was the deep dive into neurodiversity. Presented by one of Learning Cog’s Associates, Anjie Carless. Understanding that every individual has a unique way of thinking and processing information is crucial. Anjie shared that by incorporating neurodiversity into the Insights program, we can foster more inclusive environments where everyone feels valued. This approach not only enhances team cohesion but also drives creativity and innovation. As managers or leaders, it’s vital to recognise and celebrate these differences to unlock the full potential of their teams. As well as allowing managers and practitioners to better understand different aspects of neurodiversity, and to feel comfortable having conversations about those topics in their teams.
Introducing the String Theory Exercise Another exciting highlight was learning about the ‘String Theory’ exercise. This innovative method allows associates to visually represent the connections and ties within a team. By using strings to symbolise relationships and dynamics, we can better understand how team members interact and collaborate. This hands-on approach not only makes the learning process more engaging but also provides a tangible way to illustrate the importance of strong connections in a team setting, and also enables us to get to the bottom where strains and frustrations may be taking place across the team.
Takeaways for Practitioners As current practitioners, I learnt they have the tools and insights to make a significant impact on their clients’ teams. By embracing neurodiversity and incorporating new and fun tasks like the String Theory technique, they can facilitate deeper conversations and foster stronger relationships.
Our Practitioner Day was a resounding success, filled with meaningful conversations and valuable insights. As we wrapped up, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and connection—not just to the material we explored, but to the fellow practitioners at Learning Cog who share a commitment to understanding others and inclusion.
