Dealing with stress

Stress is very common and everyone feels stressed from time to time whether it is due to work or other things but there are many ways to try and reduce your stress levels and make you feel yourself again.

First of all if you are feeling stressed it is always a good idea to avoid alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. Or if you find it hard to cut any of those things out then at least try to reduce the amount that you consume as these three things are stimulants and will increase your stress levels.

Secondly physical activity is proven to reduce stress hormones and helps to return your mind and body back to a relaxed and calm state.

Stress is often caused by ourselves trying to do everything at once. You need to accept that you aren’t superman and try to prioritise your tasks. Make a list of all the things that you need to do and put them in order of priority. Don’t forget to add in a bit of relaxation time for yourself.

Another important thing to do if you are feeling stressed is to talk to someone. Don’t keep things bottled up talk to someone and tell them how you are feeling. This can work in two ways, talking can either distract you from your stressful thoughts or release some of the built-up tension by discussing the way you feel.

Finally make sure you are getting enough sleep. If you are feeling stressed it is easy to bypass sleeping or damage your sleeping pattern. it could be that you can’t sleep because you have a  lot on your mind or it could be that you aren’t sleeping because you are trying to overcome the problem that is stressing you out.  Either way a lack of sleep definitely won’t help. If you struggle to get to sleep try having a warm bath or reading a book before you go to sleep to tired your eyes.
